Plot:
Sergio Vieira de Mello (Wagner Moura) is a charismatic and complex character who has spent much of his storied career as a senior UN diplomat working in the world’s most volatile regions, deftly dealing with presidents, revolutionaries and war criminals to protect the lives of ordinary people. But just as he prepares to settle down in a simple life with the woman he loves (Ana de Armas), Sergio is given one last mission, in a Baghdad thrown into chaos following the US invasion. It’s supposed to be a simple assignment, but then a bomb goes off and the walls of the UN headquarters fall on him, setting off a gripping fight for life and death. Inspired by true events, Sergio is a big-budget film that pushes the protagonist to his physical and mental limits and forces him to confront divisive choices about ambition, family and his capacity for love.
