The film is based on the novel of the same name by Anne Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer. The story is set after World War II and tells the story of the mutual understanding and familiarity between writer Juliet Ashton (played by Lily James) and the "Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Club".
