The film tells the story of a woman named Rose's horrific experience in 1945. The story takes place on a farm in the Masurian Lake District in Poland. Her husband, a German soldier, was killed in the September War when Germany invaded Poland in 1939, leaving her alone and raped when Russian soldiers arrived. The Russians wanted revenge. The Poles looted her farm. All order was gone. A retired soldier named Tadous arrived from Warsaw. He had been hiding his true identity, but he reached out to Rose.
