In the late 1920s, in order to fulfill his master's wish, Chen Zhen (played by Jet Li) went to Japan to learn advanced technology. He liked the Japanese girl Mitsuko Yamada (played by Shinobu Nakayama). Because of the death of his master Huo Yuanjia, Chen Zhen returned to China to assist his master's son Huo Tingen (played by Qian Xiaohao) in presiding over the business of Jingwumen. Unexpectedly, he aroused his jealousy and triggered a power struggle between his brothers. On the other hand, Chen Zhen investigated the cause of his master's death and suspected that Japanese officer Fujita Tsuyoshi (played by Chow Billy) secretly used chronic poison to kill Huo Yuanjia. Chen Zhen asked a doctor to perform an autopsy and confirmed that his master died of poisoning. Fujita Tsuyoshi was afraid that his conspiracy would be exposed, so he killed people and framed them, and launched a series of fierce battles. Soon, Fujita Tsuyoshi challenged Jingwumen. He induced Fumio Funakoshi, the head coach of the Japanese Black Dragon Society, to challenge Jingwu Hall. On the day of the competition, the two sides launched a thrilling decisive battle.
