Adam is a simple fisherman's son who is fortunate enough to be admitted to Cairo's prestigious Al-Azhar University, the epicenter of Sunni Islam. On the first day of school, the Grand Imam, who heads the school, suddenly passes away. Adam then finds himself unwittingly drawn into a ruthless power struggle among the country's religious and political elites.
