Captain Claus M. Pedersen leads his soldiers in a province in Afghanistan. Far away in Denmark, Claus's wife Maria is having a hard time. She is worried about her husband fighting in a faraway war, and her children are crying to see their father. During a seemingly ordinary mission, the soldiers are trapped in a circle of heavy fire. In order to save his soldiers, Claus makes a decision that will have unimaginable consequences for himself and his family.
