Naomi Watts plays a child psychologist named Mary in the film. She encounters the most unfortunate event in her life: her husband is killed in a bizarre car accident, and her son becomes a vegetable because of the disaster. By chance, Mary meets a sick child named Tom. She brings this strange boy home to raise, but this leads to a series of incredible events.
