Plot:
In 2003, Lily, who had immigrated to the United States for five years, returned to Xindian from Los Angeles with her two daughters Fangyi and Fangan due to breast cancer. She reunited with her estranged husband Zonghui. Fangyi's grades were seriously lagging behind in class due to her Chinese language barrier, and her classmates nicknamed her "American girl". She was reckless and felt powerless in the face of her mother's illness, and her greatest desire was to return to the United States. Lily, who was always worried about the worsening of cancer, could not forgive Fangyi's various rebellious behaviors, and the tension between family members was on the verge of breaking out. Under the pressure of cultural conflict, economy, and disease, the conflict between Lily and Fangyi escalated and reached its peak when the youngest daughter Fangan was isolated in the hospital during the SARS period. Lily's family, which was about to fall apart, was forced to face each other's knots due to an unexpected epidemic, and thus got the opportunity to start over.
