During World War II, the boy Jojo (Davis) and his mother (Scarlett) lived under the rule of Nazi Germany. He didn't know that his mother was hiding a Jewish girl (McKenzie) at home and that his mother was secretly working for the resistance. Jojo was eager to join the Hitler Youth League. He had a subversive version of Hitler in his mind. This Hitler was charming, silly, innocent and cute. He was his friend and helped him cope with the difficulties in life.
