The film tells the story of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army's third platoon leader Meng Daguan (played by Ren Tianye) during the Korean War. He was ordered to lead a team to rescue the reconnaissance platoon trapped behind enemy lines. After a series of hardships and obstacles, the third platoon successfully joined the reconnaissance platoon led by "Du Shenqiang" Du Chuan (played by Li Dongxue). In order to avoid greater casualties in the large army, Meng Daguan and Du Chuan decisively decided to trap the enemy's heavy artillery battalion that could not replenish supplies at the critical moment.
