The protagonists of the story are American writer Roland played by Brad Pitt and his wife Vanessa played by Julie. They have been married for many years but encountered a marriage crisis, so they came to a picturesque and quiet seaside resort in France to relax. Here they met a newlywed couple and several locals, and the knots they had for many years gradually untied.
