Police officer James Coffee (Ed Helms) enjoys his new relationship with Vanessa Manning (Taraji P. Henson), while Vanessa's beloved 12-year-old son Kareem (Terence Little Gardenhigh) plots their breakup. In an effort to scare his mom's boyfriend away for good, Kareem tries to hire a fugitive to take him out, but accidentally uncovers a secret network of criminal activity that makes his family the latest target. To protect Vanessa, Kareem reluctantly teams up with Coffee on a dangerous chase through Detroit.
