The film is adapted from the debut novel of the same name written by writer Jesse Kosinski. The original work revolves around the experience of an unnamed little boy hiding from the war in a rural Eastern European country. The story reflects on and understands the absurd behavior of marginalized characters from different perspectives, including social and historical ones.
