Single mother Casey takes her son Cody to her deceased sister's home to help her clean up the mess. Cody is a precocious and introverted eight-year-old boy who is not good at getting along with children of the same age. Because Casey has cut off contact with her sister, who is 12 years younger than her, Cody knows nothing about his aunt. Instead, his aunt's retired veteran neighbor Dale becomes his new best friend.
