In 1973, Beth left her rural home in the South to attend New York University. Her beloved uncle Frank was a respected literature professor. Beth soon discovered that Frank was gay and lived with his long-term partner Wally, a secret he had kept hidden for years. After the sudden death of Frank's father/Beth's grandfather, Frank had to return home for the funeral and ultimately confront a long-buried trauma that he had been avoiding his entire adult life.
