The play tells the story of how the emperor fabricated a false case to retrieve the memoirs written by the King of Lingnan, which resulted in the loss of six national treasures, and he ordered the chief of the imperial guards to be held responsible. The "Imperial Dog" Jia Ya mistakenly believed that the emperor wanted to kill him, so he sneaked back home late at night and hid with his wife and children under an assumed name for more than ten years.
