The film will be based on the only authorized biography of Jobs written by Walter Isaacson. Unlike traditional biographical films, the film will consist of three stories. Sorkin's script will focus on the launch of three key products during Jobs' lifetime - the advent of the first Mac computer in 1984, the NeXT computer company founded by Jobs after leaving Apple, and the iMac first launched by Apple in 1998.
